A Yeppoon man who thought his mate was pulling a prank on him, breathed a sigh of relief today when claiming his $50,000 Keno win from Friday afternoon.

The Central Queensland player held a Keno 8 Spot winning entry in game 884 on Friday 6 March 2020 and takes home $50,277.10.

Confirming his win with a Keno official this morning, the man relayed the winning moment.

“We had been out for an event, and then we went to the club to have some afternoon tea,” he explained.

“I decided to play some Keno and I used my special numbers, which are anniversary and birthday numbers.

“I was actually talking to my mate, so I didn’t see the draw.

“Another friend came up to me and told me there had been a major Keno win and that I should check my ticket.

“When I went up to the counter they told me I won. But my friend is a bit of a joker, so I actually thought it was all a prank and he’d gotten the employee to go along with it.

“It took me ages to believe it was real!

“After that I went straight home with my wife. I needed to just think about it and let it sink in.

“It’s just crazy!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his fun money, the stoked bloke said he’d be enjoying a couple of much needed holidays.

“We spent the weekend planning how to use our prize,” he shared.

“We have been wanting to go on a holiday. We might look into visiting Vietnam and America sometime this year!”

The regular player, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning Keno 8 Spot entry at Rocky Sports Club, 1 Lion Creek Road, Rockhampton.

Rocky Sports Club general manager Jack Hughes said the venue was celebrating delivering a major Keno win to one of their patrons.

“It’s great,” he exclaimed.

“When the winner checked his ticket, he didn’t believe it. He thought someone was pulling a prank on him!

“He was in complete disbelief, so it took him a little bit to believe the news.

“We are really happy for him and wish him the best with his prize.

“This is the largest win we’ve had, so hopefully this means we have some more major Keno wins soon.”

In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 64 million wins collectively worth more than $853 million.
