A Curlewis man is gearing up for some metal-detecting fun after his special Keno numbers unearthed a $50,000 prize.

The New South Wales resident scored the Keno Classic 8 Spot jackpot in draw 63, drawn Tuesday 12 October 2024. He won a total of $50,184.60.

The cheerful man confessed he was still floating on air when officials from Keno called him to confirm the winning news.

“I’m very good!” he laughed.

“It’s amazing. I’m going to buy a metal detector, and I wouldn’t mind a new car!

“I’ve won a bit here and there on Keno, but never anything like this.

“I always like to play a KwikPick and a marked entry. It was my special numbers I’ve used for ages that got me the win.

“It’s great because there’s been many times I’ve been one or two numbers off, so to match them all is super cool.

“Thank you so much.”

The man’s winning Keno Classic entry was purchased from Commercial Hotel, Cnr Railway & Goran Street, Curlewis.

Commercial Hotel managing owner Erin Van Beeck said he and the team were ecstatic for their winning customer.

“We’re very excited that one of our locals won such a large amount on Keno. We couldn’t be happier for them!” he said.

“People were looking around for who the winner could be. People were even calling friends, telling them to check their Keno tickets.

“The last major win we had was New Year’s Eve 2023.  It’s great to have another one.

“All the best for the lucky winner, just in time for Christmas!”

In FY24, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 78.5 million wins collectively worth more than $1.16 billion.

During this time, Keno crowned 18 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $46.7 million.  Eight of these major winners were from New South Wales and the ACT, including a Shelly Beach dad who scored a $5.92 million windfall.

Players in New South Wales and the ACT enjoyed more than 40.3 million Keno wins totalling more than $588.5 million across the region in FY24.
