A Thornbury man is still in a state of shock after discovering he is now over $875,000 richer from scoring the nation’s largest ever Keno Mega Millions 9 Spot win yesterday evening.

The stoked bloke won the Keno Mega Millions 9 Spot prize worth $875,562.90 in draw 627 on Thursday 11 July 2019.

The thrilled winner confessed he was oblivious to his good fortune until he checked his ticket after grabbing a drink with a mate.

“I had watched a couple of Keno draws but didn’t see any of my numbers on them so thought I hadn’t won anything,” he explained.

“I checked my ticket and when they told me I had won I thought ‘this can’t be real’!”

The regular player confessed he had a unique theory on how to choose his numbers.

“I always just play a KwikPik entry because the machine chooses the random numbers for me.

“I reckon if Keno is about random numbers than letting the machine pick the random numbers is the best way to go!

“I’ve been watching the Keno Mega Millions prize climb for a while and was wondering when it would be won.

“I never thought it would be won by me!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his Keno Mega Millions fun money, the overwhelmed winner confessed the news was still sinking in.

“I’m still in a bit of shock!” he laughed.

“I don’t know at the moment what I am going to spend it on.

“I’m retired, but I still have a good few years left in me, so I’m sure I’ll put it to good use.

“I can’t wait to call my children and tell them about the win. I’m sure I’ll share it with them as well.”

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning entry at Junction Hotel, 1 Plenty Road, Preston.

Junction Hotel Duty Manager David Papo said he was thrilled his venue had sold such a major prize.

“This is the largest prize we’ve ever sold!” he exclaimed.

“We are so thrilled a regular to the hotel and a local person has scored such a great prize.

“We are so happy for our winner and we wish him all the best.”

In 2018, Keno crowned 16 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $36.47 million.

Victorians win $5.92 million on average each month playing Keno in pubs and clubs across the state.

Last year in Victoria alone, players bought 8.28 million Keno tickets and won $71.10 million in cash prizes, including 165 individual 7, 8, 9, and 10 Spot jackpot prizes.
