A Mackay man is planning on heading straight to the travel agent to book “a few cruises” after discovering he won more than $73,000 in Keno.

The North Queensland player held a Keno 8 Spot winning entry in game 283 on Friday 20 December 2019, and takes home $73,318.30.

Confirming his win with a Keno official this morning, the man explained how a bingo trip led to his Keno win.

“My wife went to Magpies to play some bingo and while she was playing, I put on some Keno,” he explained.

“I wasn’t actually watching the draw, but I had just put my head up and I saw some of my numbers appear at the end, so I knew I won something.

“I went to check my ticket after and the guy there told me. He was probably more shocked than I was.

“I have been playing these numbers for years and years. They are the numbers of the houses that we have lived in.

“It certainly made my day!

“When my wife finished bingo, I told her I won but she didn’t believe me. I had to get the guy to confirm it with her. She was gobsmacked.”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his prize, the stoked bloke said he’d be packing his bag for a few holidays.

“After we discovered we won, we went straight home, had a glass of wine, talked about how we’d spend our prize and then went to bed,” he shared.

“We have decided we will probably use it to go on a cruise, or maybe even a few cruises.”

The winning Keno 8 Spot entry was purchased at Magpies Sporting Club, Glenella Road, Mackay.

This is the third major Keno prize to be won at Magpies Sporting Club this year. In May a Mackay tradie won more than $5.1 million and earlier this month a Mackay couple won $60,000.

Magpies Sporting Club general manager Darren Smith said the club was celebrating making another one of its patrons a major Keno winner.

“It’s crazy! This is our third major Keno win this year and the second this month,” he said.

“It certainly creates a buzz when people hear there’s been another win. Everyone has been saying we’re a lucky venue.

“When the man won, he was actually pretty calm, but his wife was super pumped! She couldn’t believe it. They were both really happy.

“It’s great news for the community and for our club.

“We wish our winners all the very best, and hope they enjoy their prize. What a nice Christmas they will have.”

In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 64 million wins collectively worth more than $853 million.

During this time, Keno crowned 17 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $47.2 million.  Seven of these major winners were Queenslanders, including a Mackay tradie who scored a Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot prize worth $5,167,445.

Queenslanders enjoyed more than 25.35 million Keno wins totalling more than $312.79 million at pubs and clubs across the state in the 12 months to 30 June 2019.

Keno players can also enter into the monthly second chance draw for the chance to win $10,000 by scanning their ticket at win.secondchance.keno.com.au.
