A young Barcaldine couple is now relishing the future possibilities their $180,000 Keno win might allow them after being surprised and delighted by a 9 Spot jackpot.

The couple held a winning Keno Classic 9 Spot entry in draw 359 on Friday 5 April 2024. Their total prize was $180,585.00.

The winning man relayed how the win came to be when an official from Keno called this morning.

“My partner had put the ticket on, and we were just there playing pool with some mates,” he explained.

“I saw the win come up on the screen and then it went bang! I thought, ‘I think that might be me – let me check that!’.

“I checked the ticket and double-checked and triple-checked. I think my stomach dropped about 20,000 times.

“We’re trying to let it sink in. I think we're just in shock, and I giggle to my partner every now and then.”

“We play Keno a bit. I have some numbers I like to play, but I like to mix them up, and this time, it was just a Kwikpik.

“Barcaldine is a small town and word has spread on the grapevine of Barcaldine. Everyone’s been congratulating us, which has been nice.

“This prize just sets us up for the future, maybe a house deposit. It’s insane what this will do for us.

Their winning entry was purchased at Union Hotel Motel, 61 Oak Street, Barcaldine.

In 2023, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 67.31 million wins collectively worth more than $1 billion.
