A Hervey Bay couple have confessed they’re still laughing after pocketing an unexpected $69,000 in a recent Keno draw, joking that the fortunate husband almost didn’t put his ticket on.
The Queenslanders scored the Keno Classic 8 Spot jackpot in draw 195, drawn Wednesday 14 January 2026. They look forward to a total prize of $69,087.20.
The winning wife relayed how the newfound fortune came about when speaking to an official from Keno yesterday afternoon.
“We’re pretty stoked! It’s very exciting,” she exclaimed.
“It was honestly just a fluke.
“My husband got a call to pop down to the hotel to see someone, and at first, he wasn’t even going to put on a ticket. Then he realised he had a bit of spare cash in his wallet, so he thought, ‘Why not?’.
“A bit later, the gentleman behind the bar noticed the jackpot had gone off at the hotel and turned to my partner, saying, ‘Was that you? It’s just flashed up on the screen that someone’s won!’.
“He said, ‘I’m not looking! I’m not checking it until my wife checks it with me’.
“He came home and we checked the ticket together and were left very shocked.”
The ecstatic couple revealed that their $69,000 windfall would enable them to completely pay off their mortgage.
“It’s going to finalise our mortgage, so we’re really happy with that,” she shared.
“We’re both at work so we haven’t done anything to celebrate but we’ll definitely organise a fancy dinner on the weekend!
“Thank you very much.”
Their winning Classic entry was purchased at Craignish Country Club Hotel, 929 Pialba Burrum Heads Road, Craignish.
