A Mackay great-grandmother’s major Keno Classic win was written in the stars after she revealed a clairvoyant foresaw the winning numbers that scored her a prize worth over $61,000.

The North Queensland Keno player held a Keno Classic 7 Spot winning entry with a Bonus multiplier of 10 in game 942 on Thursday 18 June 2020 and takes home $61,528.10.

Sharing her joy with a Keno official this morning, the winner recounted how she came to hold the winning numbers.

“I’m still getting over the shock of it!” she exclaimed.

“I was in the club having a meal with my family when my son suggested we play some Keno.

“I don’t usually play that often, but I thought I’d put some numbers on.

“Years ago, a clairvoyant gave me seven numbers and told me they would win me a lot of money, so I put them on.

“When I was filling in the form, my son explained that if I ticked the box that said multiplier it would multiply any win. I gave it ago as I had never played that before.

“Just as the draw was about to start, I realised I had put on one wrong number. I had put 31 when it was meant to be 33.

“I’m glad I did though because when it came out and I had all seven numbers, I felt very lucky.

“It was good mistake to make!

“When my son checked my ticket, he told me I had all of the numbers and the prize had been times by ten, I thought he was pulling my leg! It was very exciting!

“I was so excited I couldn’t sleep! All morning my kids and grandkids have been calling me to make sure I didn’t have a heart attack after all the excitement!”

When asked how she planned to enjoy her Keno fun money, the loving great-grandmother said she would use it towards a trip to visit family.

“I’ve got a new great-grandchild I haven’t met yet so as soon as the borders open I am going to take a trip to visit them,” she said.

“Apart from that, I’ll pop it straight into the bank and think about it but the first thing I’ll do is go and meet the new bub.”

The happy woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her winning entry at Magpies Sporting Club, Glenella Road, Mackay.

Magpies Sporting Club Duty Manager Sarah Zammit said she couldn’t believe the club had had another Keno winner so soon after re-opening.

“We’ve had quite a few big Keno winners here in the past 12 months and the atmosphere is always the same after a big win,” she explained.

“Once our patrons see there has been a big winner on the screen, it creates a buzz and everyone is wondering who the lucky person is.

“I’m sure all of our customers and staff will be talking about it for days. We’ll be sharing the news with everyone.

“Our customers know us to be a lucky Keno venue so they will be excited there has been another big winner in Mackay.

“Our last big winner was a Keno Classic 8 Spot in February and last year we sold a Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot win worth $5.1 million in May.

“We wish our customer and her family a big congratulations! It was great to have them in the club for dinner.

“Given the past three months, we all needed some good news like this!”

In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 64 million wins collectively worth more than $853 million.

During this time, Keno crowned 17 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $47.2 million. Seven of these major winners were Queenslanders, including a Mackay tradie who scored a Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot prize worth $5,167,445.

Queenslanders enjoyed more than 25.35 million Keno wins totalling more than $312.79 million at pubs and clubs across the state in the 12 months to 30 June 2019.

About Keno

Keno is a fun game played at more than 3,400 pubs and clubs across Queensland, New South Wales, the ACT and Victoria.

A Keno draw occurs approximately every three minutes. During each draw, 20 numbers are drawn from 1 to 80. Players simply match the numbers on their entry to the numbers drawn for a chance to win over $1 million.

There are a range of Keno games to play, including Keno Mega Millions – a higher jackpot version of Keno Classic that uses the same Keno ball draw but gives players the chance to win $5 million or more
