A Griffith retiree says he shouted “whoopee” when he checked his Keno Classic 8 Spot entry and discovered he’d won more than $60,000.

The New South Wales player held a Keno Classic 8 Spot winning entry in game 170 on Wednesday 28 October 2020 and scored $61,965.90.

Confirming his win with an official from Keno this morning, the thrilled winner explained he was a regular Keno player.

“Thank you,” he laughed.

“I always play eight numbers and I never watch the draw, so I spent a little bit of time not knowing I’d won!

“Last night a mate called me up to tell me that someone down at the club had won the 8 Spot, so I thought I’d better go check my ticket!

“When I checked my ticket, I got such a surprise.

“It was a great feeling. Whoopee!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his Keno fun money, the winner explained he’d need some time to think.

“I’m going to put it in the bank for now,” he explained.

“That will give me time to make a little bit of a plan, but I am retired so I have no doubt I will find plenty of ways to enjoy it.

“When restrictions are lifted and we can travel further afield, I will take a holiday.”

The player, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning Keno Classic 8 Spot entry at The Coro Club, 20-26 Harward Road, Griffith.

The Coro Club team member Bianca Sutton said it was the biggest Keno winning entry the venue had sold.

“We couldn’t believe it when we realised someone in our venue had won more than $60,000,” she said.

“Everyone was so excited for the winner.

“Congratulations to him! We hope this is the beginning of plenty more big wins for our patrons.”

Between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 58.4 million wins collectively worth more than $776.79 million.
