A Cairns man says he’s looking forward to a boosted retirement after a Friday night tradition led to a Keno win of more than $90,000.

The Far North Queensland resident held a Keno Classic winning entry in game 224 on Friday 4 September 2020 and takes home $92,937.60.

Confirming his win with an official from Keno today, the happy man relived the moment he checked his ticket.

“Thank you!” he said.

“It was awesome!

“My wife and I go there every Friday for dinner and this week we had the big win!

“I didn’t see the draw but when I checked my ticket at the machine, that’s when I realised we’d won.

“I was pretty excited! It was a great feeling!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his Keno windfall, the Cairns man said it was the perfect nest egg.

“We’re going to just hold onto it for a while,” he explained.

“We’re heading into retirement in a couple of years so it will boost our retirement for sure and we will really enjoy it!”

The winning entry was purchased at Brothers League Club, 99-101 Anderson Street, Cairns.

Brothers League Club Senior Duty Manager Yaylene Nash said they were excited to sell a major prize winning entry.

“We haven’t had a huge win at the club for a little while but we’re certainly feeling pretty lucky here in Far North Queensland so we knew it was only a matter of time,” she said.

“Having a big win like this in a community club is great and it’s always great to be on a winning streak.  We will certainly be celebrating that.

“What a fantastic time to win. We really hope they enjoy the freedom such a big win gives.

“Congratulations to them!”

Between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 58.4 million wins collectively worth more than $776.79 million.
