A Griffin man flipped his wife’s mundane workday on its head after surprising her with the news that he’d snagged a jaw-dropping $122,000 win in a recent Keno draw.
The Moreton Bay resident scored the Keno Mega Millions 8 Spot jackpot in draw 629 on Sunday 6 October 2024. His total windfall was $122,677.50.
“Oh mate, I was in a bit of shock!” he revealed when an official from Keno called to confirm the winning news.
“I’ve never won anything in my entire life.
“I was looking at my Keno draw and I couldn’t quite understand what had happened. I went straight to the front counter and asked the team members to assist me.
“I was sort of thinking that I’d won something – maybe $20,000.
“The team member turned to me and said, ‘You’ve had a big win! You’ve won more than $100,000!’. I replied with, ‘Oh s***! I can’t believe it.’.
“It was just instant happiness and a lot of shock.
“I rang my wife a few times, but she had just left home and was on her way to work and didn’t answer. I waited for her to get to work and call me back.
“As soon as I told her the news, she got quite emotional. She works in aged care and works so hard, and sometimes goes through really tough days.
“Once she got home, I gave her a hug and kiss, and we were just awestruck.”
With more than $120,000 about to boost their bank account this coming month, the North Brisbane couple couldn’t wait to use the prize to take a ‘chunk’ out of their mortgage.
“We always pray to make our life easier, so we’re really grateful. This will really help us take a chunk out of our mortgage,” he shared.
“Thank you very much.”
His winning Keno Mega Millions entry was purchased at Kallangur Tavern, 1517 Anzac Avenue, Kallangur.
The Kallangur Tavern team were overjoyed to have helped change someone’s life and wished them all the very best with their prize.
