A Maryborough retiree remained surprisingly calm while discovering his $1.12 million windfall in a recent Keno draw – revealing that “life goes on”.

The Fraser Coast local scored the Keno Classic 10 Spot jackpot prize in Keno draw 468, drawn Tuesday 30 April 2024 and takes home a total prize of $1,129,528.10.

The newly minted millionaire shared he has had a good stint at major Keno prizes but has never come close to a million-dollar win.

“This is definitely the biggest prize I’ve ever won, but life goes on,” he exclaimed.

“I’ve had a couple of good prizes here and there – mostly 7 Spots.

“But I’ve certainly never come close to a million-dollar win.

“I was calm when the win came up. I’m just a reserved man.

“I like to visit a few different clubs in the area, but Sporties has always been good to me.

“I’m not too sure what I’ll do with the prize. I’m a retired serviceman and have always donated back. Maybe I’ll do something similar.

“Thank you very much.”

His winning Keno Classic entry was purchased at Maryborough Sports Club Inc, Cnr Saltwater Creek Road & Sydney Street.

Maryborough Sports Club manager David Banks said he couldn’t believe his venue had sold a major Keno winning entry worth $1.12 million.

“There was a lot of excitement for sure. It’s already the talk of the town and there’s no doubt we’ll be welcoming players from all over the community with locals hoping to try their luck,” he said.

“It’s been a while since we’ve sold any major winning tickets in Keno but I do recall a 9 Spot jackpot winner a few years ago!

“I would like to congratulate the winner on a job well done; 10 out of 10. Who would’ve thought so?!

“We’ve got a great venue here at Maryborough Sports club that offers a lot of services now and we can add a 10 Spot jackpot winner to our resume!”

In 2023, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 67.31 million wins collectively worth more than $1 billion.

During this time, Keno crowned 21 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $51.5 million.  Seven of these major winners were Queenslanders, including a Kallangur man who won $8.45 million after scoring the Keno Classic and Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot jackpots in the one draw.

Queenslanders enjoyed more than 21.79 million Keno wins totalling more than $349.14 million at pubs and clubs across the state in 2023.
