A New Lambton man who thought he’d won a $25,000 Keno prize on the weekend was ecstatic to realise he’d actually scored more than double that amount.

The Newcastle resident scored a Keno Classic 8 Spot win in draw 901 on Sunday 5 June 2022 and won $52,380.10.

However, it was only when speaking to a Keno official this morning that the winner realised the true extent of his good fortune.

“How much did you say I’d won?” he queried.

“I thought I’d only won $25,000! It’s just doubled in a matter of minutes. Fifty-two thousand sounds much better!

“I was just having lunch on Sunday and played the same set of numbers I always use.

“I didn’t see the draw but when I checked my ticket, the person behind the bar let me know.

“It was a good way to end the weekend.”

When asked how he might use his Keno prize, the New South Wales man said he looked forward to planning how he’d use his prize, especially now that it was twice the size he originally thought.

The man’s winning entry was purchased at Duke of Wellington Hotel, 69 Regent Street, New Lambton.

Duke of Wellington Hotel duty manager Keely Shore said the win had caused quite a stir in the venue.

“I was around when the win occurred. There was a lot happening!  Everyone was hyped!” she said.

“This is the biggest Keno win we’ve had since I’ve been here.

“It’s great to see and we wish our winner all the very best with their prize.”

In 2021, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 36.2 million wins collectively worth more than $590.3 million.

During this time, Keno crowned 13 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $31 million.  Six of these major winners were from New South Wales and the ACT, including Crescent Head neighbours who pocketed a Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot prize of more than $5.8 million.

Players in New South Wales and the ACT enjoyed more than 17.36 million Keno wins totalling more than $292 million at pubs and clubs across the state in 2020.

Keno players can also enter into the monthly second chance draw for the chance to win one of five $1,000 prizes by scanning their ticket at win.secondchance.keno.com.au.
