A Maroochydore man has turned a casual family gathering into a $52,000 windfall, asking his nearest and dearest to each choose two numbers for his Keno ticket, leading to a life-enhancing win.

The Sunshine Coast resident scored the Keno Classic 8 Spot jackpot in draw 186, drawn Thursday 17 April and looks forward to a total prize of $52,753.80. It’s the first major Keno win to land in the Sunshine Coast region in 2025.

Coincidentally, this marks the second Keno winner within a week who has scored a jackpot after asking family members to pick numbers for them.

“It’s unreal! Absolutely unreal!” he laughed when an official from Keno confirmed the newfound fortune.

“There was four of us that went out for dinner, and I decided to put the game of Keno on. I asked everyone there to pick two numbers each.

"I didn’t think it would happen, to be honest. It’s definitely the most I’ve ever won; so surreal.

“We celebrated with some beers afterwards!”

When asked how he’d use his $52,000 windfall, the Queenslander didn’t hesitate revealing it would help pay off the mortgage and fund a getaway.

“I think it will go towards a holiday and the mortgage!” he revealed.

“It’s up in the air, but those are my two options for now.”

His winning entry was purchased at Duporth Tavern, 52-62 Duporth Avenue, Maroochydore.
