A Kyabram man has revealed he is still in shock after discovering he had been walking around with a Keno ticket worth over $270,000 in his pocket for days without realising.
The Victorian player held a Keno 9 Spot winning entry in game 668 on Thursday 16 January 2020 and takes home $271,492.20.
Confirming his win with a Keno official this afternoon, the man recounted his life-changing discovery.
“I play every time I’m at a venue where there is a Keno screen,” he explained.
“I’ve been using the same numbers for about 20 years. I chose them at random years and years ago.
“I hadn’t had any luck while I was in the club, so I put on another few games as I was leaving.
“I didn’t think to check it until the next time I was in the club which was a couple of days later.
“I couldn’t believe that I’d been walking around with a ticket worth that much the whole time.
“It was a bit of a shock when I checked it and realised I had won.”
When asked how he planned to spend his Keno fun money, the winner confessed he was yet to make any solid plans.
“I think I’ll just spend it gradually,” he said.
“If something pops up that I want to buy or want to do I’ll spend it then.
“Otherwise, I’ll just let it sit there until I am ready but it’s great to know it’s there.”
The winning entry was purchased at Kyabram Club, 82 Allan Street, Kyabram.
Kyabram Club manager Greg Ryan said he was thrilled a regular customer had scored a major prize.
“This is the first major prize we’ve sold at the Kyabram Club so we are thrilled!” he exclaimed.
“It certainly created a bit of a buzz in the venue as we waited for the winner to come forward to claim their prize.
“It was a very exciting atmosphere.
“Congratulations to our winner! We are so happy it’s a local and a regular. We wish him all the best!”
In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 64 million wins collectively worth more than $853 million.
During this time, Keno crowned 17 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $47.2 million. This included a Baxter man who didn’t discover he had won a Keno 10 Spot prize of $1,541,399.90 until a fortnight after the draw.
