A Kandos man who scored a Keno prize of more than $1.4 million on Friday night admits he mistakenly thought he’d only won $1,400.

The Central Tablelands resident won a Keno Classic 10 Spot winning entry in draw 673 on Friday 29 April 2022. His total windfall was $1,471,830.80.

Confirming his win with a Keno official, the Kandos resident declared it wasn’t just a sensational win for him but also for his small hometown.

“I’ve been playing the same numbers on Keno for years. I picked them a while ago and have just stuck with them ever since,” he explained.

“I usually play the 10 Spot and sometimes I’ll get a little prize. But this is something else!

“I put the numbers on, and I saw the draw flash up on the screen. At first, I thought I saw $1,400 on the screen.

“But then someone said the 10 Spot had gone off. That’s when I realised I hadn’t won $1,400, but $1.4 million!”

While yet to decide how he might use his Keno windfall, the Kandos resident promised he would treat himself somehow.

“It’s hard to say what I’ll do at this stage. I don’t want to rush into anything,” he said.

“It will certainly make life a bit easier! I’ll certainly treat myself.”

His winning entry was purchased at Kandos Returned Services Community Club, 20 Dangar Street, Kandos.

Kandos Returned Services Community Club manager Marsha Hundy said she was over the moon to see the huge win land in her club.

“The atmosphere was unbelievable when the win happened. Everyone was so excited,” she said.

“We just can’t believe that our small club has sold this major winning ticket!

“The last time we sold a big Keno win was a $9,000 prize about five years ago.”

In 2021, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 36.2 million wins collectively worth more than $590.3 million.
