An Algester woman has admitted that when she scanned her Keno ticket she had no idea what she’d won until she put on her glasses and realised it was an “incredible” $68,000 prize.

The Brisbane resident held a Keno Classic 8 Spot winning entry in game 749 on Thursday 24 September 2020 and takes home $68,147.50.

Speaking with an official from Keno today, the overjoyed woman recounted the moment she discovered she won the 8 Spot prize.

“I was in the club, but I didn’t watch the draw, so when I went up the counter to scan my ticket, I had no idea,” she said.

“I actually didn’t have my glasses on, so when the amount came up on the screen, I was really struggling to see what it was.

“I started to squint and eventually I realised it was more than $68,000. I was shocked!

“I swore a lot! I just couldn’t help it. It’s incredible.

“I went and told my partner and he goes, ‘No, get out! It can’t be’.

“It’s not a bad shot in the arm!

“We celebrated that night. We shouted all our friends dinner.

“We are going to get a bottle of Moet when we get the money.

“We are still in disbelief, to be honest. We just can’t believe it.”

When asked how she planned to enjoy her prize, the elated woman said she did have a few ideas.

“Well, we have a little bit left to pay off the mortgage, so we will do that,” she said.

“I also want to save some. The rest I will use to travel overseas. I’d love to go on a big trip once we can do that.”

The winning entry was purchased at Souths Acacia Leagues Club, 244 Mortimer Road, Acacia Ridge.

Souths Acacia Leagues Club marketing manager Wendy Varley said she couldn’t be more thrilled for the winner.

“It’s brilliant news,” she said.

“We are so excited we’ve had a winner in our venue.

“All the team here wish the winner all the very best, especially in times like this.

“It’s the biggest win we’ve had since I’ve been here, so I am absolutely wrapt.

“We can’t wait for our next major prize win.”

Between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 58.4 million wins collectively worth more than $776.79 million.

During this time, Keno crowned 17 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $38.72 million.  Four of these major winners were Queenslanders, including a group of three long-time Cairns friends who scored a Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot prize worth more than $5.9 million.

Queenslanders enjoyed more than 19.49 million Keno wins totalling more than $249.57 million at pubs and clubs across the state in the 12 months to 30 June 2020.
