A Cleveland man unwittingly became a millionaire during the last days of 2021 but only discovered his good fortune on New Year’s Day when his wife checked his Keno ticket.

The Redland City resident held a Keno Classic 10 Spot winning entry in draw 679, drawn Thursday 30 December 2021.  His total prize was $1,121,414.30.

“It’s having a lot of trouble sinking in that I actually won, but hearing you say it helps,” the man shared when confirming his win with Keno official.

“I still thought I was dreaming.

“I put the ticket on a few days ago, but we didn’t check it until New Year’s Day.

“My wife checked it, actually. I gave my wife the ticket to see if it’d won anything. She rings me up an hour later, telling me we’re now millionaires.

“I’ve been playing these numbers for 20 years – maybe longer. They’re all our birthdates and other special numbers.

“It changes a few things. I’ve never won anything like this.

“I think my wife has spent it already in her mind, but we’ll just wait to decide what we’ll do once we see it in our bank account.”

The winning entry was purchased at Victoria Point Tavern, Cnr Redland Bay Road and Colburn Avenue, Victoria Point.

In the 12 months to 30 June 2021, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 64 million wins collectively worth more than $853 million.
