A Dandenong bus driver has had a day off he’ll never forget after scoring a $50,000 Keno prize while having dinner at his local RSL club.

The man in his 50s scored nine numbers on his 10 Spot entry with a five times Keno Bonus multiplier landing him a prize worth $50,000 in draw 344 on Wednesday 12 June 2019.

When a Keno official spoke to the winner this morning, the thrilled man confessed he thought it had all been a dream.

“So it wasn’t a dream?” he laughed.

“We had the day off and thought we’d go down to our local for some dinner and a few drinks.

“We started playing Keno and had had a bit of luck earlier in the night so when we played again I put on a Keno Bonus.

“I couldn’t believe it! I thought it was a dream. My son even texted me earlier to make sure it really happened.”

The winner also revealed he thought the win was meant to be as it fell near a significant date.

“It’s my birthday in the next couple of days so when I picked my numbers I used all of our birth dates,” he explained.

“My birthday came early! It is meant to be!

“I think we’ll use some of the prize to celebrate my birthday this weekend. Definitely with a bit more Keno!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his $50,000 Fun Money, the winner declared he was dreaming of the white sand and blue seas of Hawaii.

“Hopefully we can take a bit of time off later in the year and take the family to Hawaii,” he confessed.

“We have a bit of a family business so it will be great that they all get to share in the winnings.”

The happy winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his Keno 10 Spot entry with Bonus multiplier at Dandenong RSL, 44-50 Clow Street, Dandenong.

Dandenong RSL Operations Manager Darren Lawrence said the atmosphere was electric when the venue realised there was a winner.

“All of the staff and our members were wondering who the winner was and who had the winning ticket,” he said.

“The winner had played 50 games and had won on the third game but only checked his ticket at the end so we had to wait a little while to find out who had won.

“This is the first major keno win our venue has sold and it has created a great buzz and excitement in the club.

“It was fantastic to see the winner so excited and happy about the big win!”

In 2018, Keno crowned 16 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $36.47 million. Victorians win $5.92 million on average each month playing Keno in pubs and clubs across the state.

Last year in Victoria alone, players bought 8.28 million Keno tickets and won $71.10 million in cash prizes, including 165 individual 7, 8, 9, and 10 Spot jackpot prizes.

More chances to win!

In late 2017, Keno released Mega Millions – a higher jackpot version of the current “Classic” Keno that uses the same Keno ball draw but gives players the chance to win $5 million or more every three minutes with a spend of $2 – just $1 more than the current game.

Keno is a fun, easy game that is played approximately every three minutes. Twenty numbers are drawn from the 80 available on the Keno display screen. Players simply match their numbers to the numbers drawn for a chance to win over $1,000,000 for as little as $1 per game.
