A Trinity Beach man has continued Far North Queensland’s weekend winning streak, pocketing a Keno prize of more than $163,000 on Saturday night.

The man held the Keno 8 Spot winning entry in game 294 on Saturday 16 November 2019, and takes home $163,341.30.

His win came a day after three long-term Cairns friends scored a Keno prize of more than $5.9 million – the biggest Keno prize to ever land in Queensland.

Sharing his excitement with a Keno official this morning, Far North Queensland’s latest Keno winner confessed to feeling fortunate as this was the latest in a series of wins for him.

“It’s very good, isn’t it,” he laughed.

“I was a bit surprised when it happened. I was watching the draw and I thought ‘that’s pretty good!’. Everyone in the club was hopping around more than I was. People always like to see a win happen in their backyard.

“Other people in the club wanted to rub my arm for good luck!”

The regular Keno player shared the “secret” behind his success – marking his Keno entries with his special numbers.

“I like to play Keno and while I’ve won a few good ones in the past this is the biggest prize so far.

“I always play the same numbers. They’re birthdates and a couple of other numbers thrown in.  Earlier this year I won about $16,000 using these numbers.

“I reckon if you’re consistent and stick to the same numbers, someday it just might happen.”

The happy winner has plans to use his prize to travel around Australia and bolster his savings nest egg.

“I’ll just put it in the bank for a while to save it for a rainy day, but there are a few trips to different places in Australia on the horizon,” he said.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning Keno 8 Spot entry at Trinity Beach Sports Club, 1 Nautilus Street, Trinity Beach.

The weekend’s win is the second major jackpot to be won at Trinity Beach Sports Club this year. In May, a Cairns man won $1.4 million on his Keno 10 Spot entry while dining out at the club with his family.

Trinity Beach Sports Club general manager Mel Roberts said the venue would be celebrating another big win for one of its customers.

“I was here when the win happened. It was very exciting. He’s a regular and a local man so it was great to see him have a big win.

“We landed a big jackpot in May and it’s great to see another prize here.

“It looks like this wasn’t the only Keno win the region on the weekend. It’s been a winning weekend for Cairns. There’s lots of winning love around.”

In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, Keno players across the eastern states of mainland Australia celebrated more than 64 million wins collectively worth more than $853 million.

During this time, Keno crowned 17 millionaires and multi-millionaires who collectively took home more than $47.2 million.  Seven of these major winners were Queenslanders, including a Mackay tradie who scored a Keno Mega Millions 10 Spot prize worth $5,167,445.

Queenslanders enjoyed more than 25.35 million Keno wins totalling more than $312.79 million at pubs and clubs across the state in the 12 months to 30 June 2019.
